The ES 8400V’s Photo Mode allows you to freeze a moment in time, and share it anytime you choose. The View from the Top! Canon’s new ES8400V Hi8 camcorder is the top of it’s class. The top quality Canon zoom lens, large color LCD viewscreen, top notch feature set and your imagination are perfect partners for capturing stunning video wherever you go. The view from the top has always been the best, now the ES8400V makes it better. The ES8400V’s powerful 22x zoom lens transforms distant scenes into dramatic close ups with absolutely no loss of image quality. The Extra Long Digital Zoom magnifies to 800x, revealing details too distant to be seen by the naked eye.

The ES8400V features a bright color LCD screen that makes it easy to shoot well-composed video without having to squint into a viewfinder. Rotate the screen for high or low - angle shots, or turn it around 180 degrees for recording yourself. When you’re done shooting, the screen is great for playing back your scenes. The built-in video lights lets you keep on shooting even when the light fades. Even in total darkness, the ES8400V lets you capture the nightlife without having to carry or connect any added gear. FlexiZone AF/AE by Canon lets you keep your subject in perfect focus and exposure regardless of the shooting and lighting conditions. Simply use the FlexiZone controller to align the FlexiZone with your subject in the viewfinder.

The ES8400V’s built-in video light is a nice feature. It is controlled with an intuitively marked switch at the rear of the cam. While the light gives the resulting video a distinct spotlight or Cops look and has a range of about 7 feet, it can be a shot-saver in a low- or no-light situation. There are six aperture pre-sets including Sun and Snow, Spotlight, Portrait, Sports, Fully Automatic and Canon’s own FlexiZone. FlexiZone technology allows you to position an on-screen box in any area of the viewfinder or LCD screen and set the automatic exposure to that lighting. It’s a very cool concept that works well and allowed us to expose bright sunlight out of a window and then switch the exposure to the darkened interior of a room without moving the camera at all. A handy backlight button exposes for detrimental light coming from behind the subject, and a fade function that fades the video to black.
