Cowon iAUDIO F2

As the controls are integrated with graphic icons in the Matrix UI, its simple and ergonomic design provides ease of use. An intuitive keypad design enables its users to utilize the iAUDIO F2’s full functions quickly. iAUDIO F2 provides the best sound quality and functions for portable multimedia entertainment experience. iAUDIO F2 boasts high quality 1.3 inch TFT LCD with its vivid color representation ideal for viewing videos, photos and reading texts. FM radio function provides additional sound experience with its clear sound quality. 60mW power output renders full-range of high quality sound with low noise, wide dynamic range, and wide frequency response from the full-featured low frequency to clean and crisp high frequency.
The iAudio F2 looks and feels like a cell phone–a very small one. It’s an odd choice of design, though Samsung has its own phonelike MP3 player, the YP-T8. The nine red-backlit buttons beneath the 1.8-inch screen are situated in a phonelike grid and though there are many buttons to learn, they can be learned. It’s the size of the unit (2.8 by 1.3 by 0.65 inches) and the location of the buttons that makes it difficult for anybody with average-size hands to operate. Trust me, the first time you switch modes or adjust volume is no sweat–it’s the tenth time that starts cramping the hand. The buttons would actually be more ergonomic if they were situated a little higher up. Two-handed use is actually tolerable.
The FM radio included with the F2 is great and gets very good reception in places that usually would see other receivers struggle. It allows you to save your favourite stations. But as I found it has an autoseek function which take several minutes to scan and cannot be stopped, you can’t even turn the player off during this. This was a major source of annoyance as I kept accidentally pushing the autoseek button. One of the drawbacks to the iAudio F2 is its very small buttons. For a person like me with big fingers this poses quite a problem as it makes pushing the right button something of a random chance. This is not helped by the fact that the rows of buttons are not in a straight line, but curved. If they were nice square buttons then there would be no real problem.
