This is one amazing machine. It is small light and very very stylish with a metal casing finished in metalic colours .The 20Gb version and a 40Gb one have the same physical size.A real shame to hide it in a pocket - it’s far more stylish than ALL competitors - but then the tiny in-line remote with screen makes it un-neccessary to take the machine from the pocket to change channels or tracks - or to turn it on or off. A major advantage over competitors. The remote includes a clip to attach to a collar or pocket. The FM radio is a boon but reception can be iffy as you move around because the aerial is the cabling.
The remote is a bit fiddly for we more elderly people but the small screen is amazingly easy to read without reading specs!
With a 1.8-inch LCD and size similar to the Zune with the same storage capacity. The U5 uses Cowon’s JetEffect equalizer, which allows users to choose among six preset settings, or tweak their own, as well as play with additional settings like Mach3Bass, 3D Surround, and panning. Other notable extras include an alarm clock, scheduled recording, and sleep timer. The 3.7V battery is expected to last for 24 hours of audio playback. Unlike both the Zune and iPod Nano, the U5 does not play video.
The player is available in a black 4GB model and a white 8GB model for $119 and $159, respectively. Unlike most of Cowon’s stuff, this one lacks some of the frills you’ll find in many other competitors, but it does house a 1.8-inch TFT LCD (no video playback, audio only), an FM tuner that can be recorded, an equalizer, voice recorder and alarm clock.
