Plantronics Explorer 350
Headset | February 10th, 2008

The Plantronics® Explorer 350 is a sleek, lightweight headset that fuses Bluetooth wireless technology with effortless call control for a true hands-free experience. The Explorer 350 headset is easy to use and incorporates all call features—volume, answer/end call, last-number redial, and voice-activated dialing—into one single button. Delivering up to eight hours of talk time and convenient in-car accessories for charging and stowing, the Explorer 350 lets you keep your headset handy and charged while you are on the go.
The Explorer 350 is mostly black with silver and chrome accents. It measures 2.6 by 0.8 by 0.5 inches and weighs a mere 0.6 ounces. It has a multifunction button on the front, which also acts as a volume rocker. While the button is on the small side, it was still pretty easy to press, even when wearing the headset. The button flashes blue when the headset’s powered on and alternates between red and blue in pairing mode.
The Explorer 340 is very easy on the eye. It comes in a range of colors including black and navy blue. Our test unit is a classy looking black unit. Regardless of color, the main glossy plate runs down the center of the unit, and is bordered by matte silver, with chrome accents around the button. The unit itself is quite long and slender, and while it does not have a curvy feel like many other recent headsets do, it still has a sophisticated look about it.
Weighing under an ounce, this new headset design from Plantronics is no lightweight. The front of the unit is black with a very subtle striped design. It is also very solidly built with no creaks or cracking when squeezed. The main button takes on all the tasks of the headset, but you have to hold on to the earpiece or it will be pushed further into your ear canal. Pressing down (and holding, depending on the task) answers the call, pressing forward or back adjusts the volume. It does work with voice dialing software, and as expected, can easily transfer calls to and from the actual phone. Just behind all-controlling button is the indicator light. It works in the typical blue/red fashion except for one noticable difference: it actually goes purple (more or less) when an incoming call is available.
