Plantronics Voyager 520
Headset | February 5th, 2008
In the car, at the airport, or on the job – Plantronics Voyager™ 520 delivers business quality audio performance. Noise-canceling microphone filters distracting background noise so you can be easily heard while the innovative wind screen minimizes wind noise. It’s user friendly with convenient one-touch call controls and desktop charging cradle. If you use two Bluetooth phones, multipoint technology lets you easily switch between them with the same headset. Battery provides up to eight hours of talk time and 180 hours of standby when fully charged. Versatile design provides a secure fit for all day wearing comfort wherever your meetings take you.
The Voyager 520’s exterior is made of a sleek but durable plastic. Both the earbud and ear rest are soft and rubberized so as to be gentle on your ear. The 520 is well built and looks like it can withstand the rigors of heavy daily use. To test its durability, I intentionally dropped the Voyager 520 from my desk (several times), carried it in a briefcase, and even dropped it from ear height (roughly 6 feet) to simulate an accidental drop. The 520 didn’t have a scratch on it and continued to work perfectly. While I don’t recommend mistreating your own Bluetooth headset, it’s nice to know that this one stood up to exaggerated abuse.
The Voyager 520 Bluetooth headset not only includes an active noise-cancelling microphone and wind shield that helps reduce unwanted background and wind noise, but a redesigned ear-tip and loop for a new level of comfort. The new 520 has a longer lasting battery for talk times up to 8 hours as well as support for Bluetooth version 2.0. We are always amazed at what quality and features Plantronics devices deliver and the Voyager 520 looks to keep the tradition.
Other features of the Plantronics Voyager 520 include the typical ability to answer, receive, and end calls; last number redial; voice dial support; the ability to transfer calls from the headset to the phone and vice versa; as well as a battery indicator. You can also pair it with more than one Bluetooth device, then toggle between the two with the Voyager 520’s MultiPoint technology. The Voyager 520 has a rated battery life of 8 hours of talk time and a promised standby time of 7.5 days.
The Voyager 520 has a neat little articulating arm that holds the headset to your ear. It easily rotates from lefty to righty configurations. Personally, I use the 520 on my right ear everywhere except in my car. I want passing motorists to know that I’m using a headset, not talking to myself like a nut. Or if I am, in fact, talking to myself like a nut, the Voyager 520 gives me perfect cover.
